THE HONEST GUIDE TO THE NEW WEIGHT LOSS SHOTS
How Zepbound, Wegovy, and Ozempic actually work, what results look like, the side effects, the cost, and how to keep your muscle, from a coach with 20+ years and nothing to sell you but the truth.
GLP-1 drugs copy a gut hormone your body already makes after you eat. They slow how fast your stomach empties and quiet the hunger signals in your brain, so you feel full sooner and think about food less. That's why the weight comes off.
What they don't do is build muscle, teach you how to eat, or keep working after you stop taking them. Many women I coach are surprised that the shot is only half the plan. Protein, strength training, and simple food habits decide how much of the weight you lose is fat, and whether it stays off.
This guide is the honest version: how the drugs work, the names and differences, realistic results, side effects, cost, the new pills, and what to do if the shots aren't for you. Not sure where you stand? Start with the free readiness quiz below.
A few quick questions with straight answers. No email needed.
Every guide answers the question you actually searched, with the trade-offs left in. When something is hype, like a viral drink sold as a natural shot, I say so and show you what the evidence supports instead.
I'm a trainer and nutrition coach, not a doctor. The medication guides are plain-language briefings built on the FDA labels and published trials, so you can walk into your appointment prepared. I never give dosing advice, and I say clearly when something is a conversation for your prescriber.
The shot turns down the noise around food. What you build while it's quiet, the protein, the strength, the habits, is what you keep.
Judge your progress by how strong you feel and how your clothes fit, not by how fast the scale drops.
Coach Luke
GLP-1 weight loss means using a prescription drug, like semaglutide or tirzepatide, that mimics a natural gut hormone. It slows digestion and reduces hunger, which makes it easier to eat less.
In the large trials, average weight loss was roughly 15 percent of body weight on Wegovy and around 20 percent at the highest Zepbound dose over about a year and a half. Individual results vary widely.
They are FDA approved for weight management in people who qualify and were studied in large trials. They also carry real risks and side effects, so they should only be used with a prescription and regular medical check-ins.
Many people regain a large share of the weight within a year of stopping. Building muscle, eating enough protein, and keeping steady food habits while on the drug gives you the best chance to hold on to your results.
