Plenty of green smoothies taste like lawn clippings or leave you hungry by 10 a.m. This green protein smoothie fixes both problems. Pineapple and banana make it sweet and tropical, spinach disappears into the background, and silken tofu, soy milk, and hemp hearts supply the protein. No scoop of powder required.
Each glass has 20 g protein, 5 g fiber, and about 293 calories. It takes about 5 minutes, and most of that is getting the ingredients out of the fridge. If you keep a bag of frozen fruit and a box of silken tofu on hand, you can make it any morning without a grocery run.

- 20 g protein and 5 g fiber per serving, about 293 calories.
- No protein powder. Soy milk, silken tofu, and hemp hearts do the heavy lifting.
- Two cups of spinach blend in without a grassy taste.
- Naturally sweet from pineapple and banana, with no added sugar.
- Five minutes, one blender, fully vegan and gluten-free.
Why This Recipe Keeps You Full
A smoothie made only from fruit and juice tends to digest quickly, which is why it can leave you hungry soon after. This one puts protein first. Soy milk and silken tofu are complete plant proteins, and hemp hearts add more protein along with healthy fats that slow digestion.

The produce matters too. Spinach and fruit add fiber and volume, so you get a big, thick glass without many calories from the greens. Frozen pineapple and banana keep it cold and creamy without watering it down with lots of ice.
How you drink it counts. A thick smoothie sipped over 10 to 15 minutes feels more like a meal than one gulped in the car. If you can, sit down with it, and you may notice it carries you further into the morning. Pairing it with a slice of whole grain toast is another easy way to make it more filling on training days.
A Few Notes on the Ingredients
Silken tofu. This is the creamy, custard-like tofu often sold in shelf-stable boxes. It has almost no flavor and blends completely smooth. Use half a 14 oz block here and freeze the rest in cubes for your next smoothie.
Baby spinach. Baby spinach has the mildest taste of the leafy greens, which makes it ideal for beginners. Once you are used to it, you can try kale, but remove the stems and expect a slightly stronger flavor.
Frozen pineapple. Pineapple’s tang is what hides the spinach. Frozen chunks are convenient and keep the smoothie thick. Frozen mango is a great substitute if you prefer a mellower sweetness. Fresh pineapple works too, but add a few ice cubes to keep the texture thick.
Hemp hearts. These small, soft seeds add protein and blend right in. Keep the bag in the fridge after opening. Two tablespoons give a noticeable protein boost without changing the flavor.

- Lower sugar: Use half a banana and add 0.5 cup frozen cauliflower rice or zucchini for thickness.
- Extra fiber: Blend in 1 tbsp chia seeds or ground flaxseed.
- Protein boost: Use the full 14 oz block of silken tofu and an extra 0.5 cup soy milk.
- Zesty: Add a squeeze of lime juice or a small piece of fresh ginger.
Storage, Leftovers, and Serving
Green smoothies are best right away, while the color is bright. If you need to save some, fill a jar to the very top, seal it, and refrigerate for up to 24 hours. Shake well before drinking. The color may dull slightly, but it still tastes good.
For quick mornings, make freezer packs. Add the spinach, pineapple, banana, tofu cubes, and hemp hearts to a freezer bag. In the morning, empty a bag into the blender with the soy milk and blend. Packs keep for up to 3 months.
Serve it on its own for breakfast or after a workout. It also makes a good afternoon snack if you split one serving into two smaller glasses. Want more ideas? Browse my smoothie recipes for other high-protein blends.
Frequently Asked Questions
How Much Protein Is in This Green Protein Smoothie?
Each glass has about 20 g protein from soy milk, silken tofu, and hemp hearts, with no protein powder. That is a solid breakfast amount for most people. Using the full block of tofu pushes it higher.
Can You Taste the Spinach?
Barely, if at all. Pineapple and banana are strong enough to cover baby spinach completely. If you are new to green smoothies, start with 1 cup of spinach and work up to 2 cups over a few weeks.
Can I Use Fresh Fruit Instead of Frozen?
Yes. Add 1 cup of ice to keep it cold and thick. Freezing the banana ahead is the easiest way to get a creamy texture without watering the smoothie down.
Your This-Week Plan
Build three smoothie freezer packs this weekend. On three weekday mornings, blend one in place of your usual breakfast and write down how hungry you feel at 11 a.m. If you stay steady until lunch, you have a reliable routine. If not, add more tofu or hemp hearts and test again.
